MEGA Maldives Airlines and Saudi Arabia sign Air Services Agreement

MEGA Maldives Airlines has welcomed the Air Services Agreement that was signed today between the Governments of the Republic of Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The agreement would go a long way in alleviating some of the existing hindrances facing airline operators of both countries. At present, MEGA Maldives Airlines is the only airline that has direct flights between the two countries. It flies three times a week connecting Male’ and Jeddah.

Furthermore, MEGA Maldives Airlines will  continue to support the Maldives’ Government initiative in facilitating greater access to foreign markets, through bilateral air services agreements and other mechanisms. Saudi Arabia remains an important bilateral trade and development partner to the Maldives, and increased air traffic between the two countries could only strengthen the existing friendly relations.

MEGA Maldives Airlines also hopes that future bilateral air services agreements could be signed with countries such as Indonesia and Japan, which would improve the flow of tourists to the Maldives, and contribute further to the appeal of the Maldives brand abroad.

The signing ceremony was held today at the Hulhule Island Hotel with H.E. Mr. Moosa Zameer, Minister of Tourism signing on behalf of the Government of Maldives, while H.E. Sulaiman Abdullah Al-Hamdan, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia signed on behalf of the Government of Saudi Arabia.

MEGA Maldives Airlines was represented at the ceremony by Mr. Mifzal Ahmed, Vice-President for Strategy and Development.
